Should something happen when I press S, or is it another tool? I can’t seem to get it to work.

  2. when you press ‘s’, the automata will regenerate for each of the brush densities. In the black and white mode, this is most obvious for the second-lightest brush (just draw a bit with the big brush size, press s, and see if it changes), and second-darkest brush in the colour mode.

    Ah, I see. Subtle.

The clumpier automata make some interesting shapes. It made me wonder if anyone’s applied cellular automata to level generation. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that is indeed the case: http://julian.togelius.com/Johnson2010Cellular.pdf

Have you tried it for anything more gamey?

  4. I’ve seen a couple of people try GOL-based level alterations mid-game. I haven’t tried automata based stuff for level generation myself.
