I don't have a proper mop bucket. It makes life a living bitch sometimes, truth be told.

What is it about cleaning…

What is it about cleaning that makes me soooo emotional?

I decided to go give the kitchen/living room a good mopping to yesterday. So, I boiled the kettle, got out my mop, some class of cleaning agent, and went upstairs to find a good CD.

Hypothesis: I have two CDs in my collection that I listen to when I engage in domestic activities: a feel-good electronic one by Max Tundra, and Poses by Rufus Wainwright. However, I loaned the former to somebody some months ago, and have not yet got it back. This is what I think has made household chores so weeepy for me.

So, I set about mopping, CD playing, all things going well. But I just totally had to sit down on the sofa and shed a tear or two when Poses came on.

GAH. Cleaning makes me waaaay too susceptible to affectation. I need some more cleaning music.

  1. It isn’t just the disinfectant that’s making your eyes water?

Nope, that particular effect would be caused by the kittens that have taken up rubbing against my eyeballs in a cute way that neither I nor my allergies can work up the courage to say no to.

I try to stay away from heavy-duty cleaners for the most part; I work under the policy that a good splash of scaldingly-hot water will perform at least as well as most detergents.
